Genital Warts: Symptoms & Diagnosis

In many women, genital warts cause few symptoms and may only be noticed by touch or using a mirror. Itching is uncommon, but untreated warts can enlarge and occasionally bleed.

In men, itching can occur on the genitals, testicles and perianal skin. Initial diagnosis is often made during a gynaecological exam, Pap test or colposcopy; a biopsy can confirm the diagnosis where needed.

What Is Genital Wart Removal?

A medical treatment to eliminate warts caused by HPV. Lesions can appear around the genitals, anus and surrounding skin and may be skin-coloured or pink. While often painless, they can cause discomfort and distress.

I decided to make an appointment and everyone I’ve dealt with has been very professional but also supportive and empathetic to me. They always have time for my questions and if I need to rearrange my appointment they have always been able to accommodate me. My therapist Charoula is the most helpful person, she always has a smile on her face and offered to stay late for me when I could only make a very late appointment time. Am I a candidate for genital wart removal in London?

Most patients with visible genital warts or a confirmed HPV diagnosis are candidates. Your consultation may include a Pap smear, colposcopy or biopsy if needed, plus a review of your health history to select the most appropriate treatment.

What happens during treatment?

Laser and diathermy are usually performed under local anaesthetic and typically take under 30 minutes. Topical therapies are applied over several weeks and reviewed during follow-up visits.

What is recovery like?

Most patients resume normal activities within 24–48 hours. Mild redness or sensitivity can occur. Some cases need further sessions or lifestyle guidance to reduce recurrence.
