Genital Warts Removal in London

What are Genital warts?

Genital warts are a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by some strains of the HPV virus or “Human Papilloma Virus”. Genital warts manifest as small lumps appearing on the female and male genitalia. They may be flat or protruding from the skin. Their surface is usually rough, and their colour may be identical to the skin colour or pink. Their size varies. They can be as small as a pin’s head or bigger. They can manifest in groups, although this is not always the case. In several cases, genital warts are not visible but can be felt if the area is touched.

  • Pain caused by lumps
  • Bleeding

What are the symptoms of Genital warts?

Genital warts, in most cases, when manifesting on females, do not exhibit symptoms, and thus diagnosis is elusive. A female patient may randomly stumble upon them using touch or see them with a magnifying mirror. Itching is rarely a symptom, but if left untreated for an extended period, the lumps may cause pain as they expand and bleed. Symptoms of male patients may include itching of the genital area, including the testicles and the perianal area.

How are Genital warts diagnosed?

Initial diagnosis is achieved during a scheduled gynaecological test, a Pap test or a Colposcopy; definitive diagnosis is achieved by performing a biopsy on the affected area(s).

How are Genital warts treated?

Treatment of genital warts is achieved by topically stimulating the affected areas, using either a laser or diathermy. Skin cream is also used to fight warts by stimulating the immune system in some instances. We will decide on the appropriate treatment together once the clinical outline and the benefits of each treatment route are considered.
